About The Artwork
Penang screams one word, heritage. From wonderful textures & colors of the colonial architecture & the colourful aged signages, Penang is definitely a characterful place. It is also home of one of the most interesting group of people : The Peranakan Culture. It has bled it’s influence & culture into the heart of Penang. Their level of handmade artistry & deep culture that they are fond & very proud of – has stood the test of time. I wanted to pay homage to that culture by replicating the peranakan-lady almost in a dream-like state; with her powerful stature & proud embodiment of her culture sets forth a call for appreciation & hopefully preservation for many generations to come.
