About The Artwork

A vibrant meditation on the enduring spirit of Malaysia’s East Coast, this artwork captures the quiet dignity of a traditional Kelantan home. The weathered warmth of chengal timber and the grounded presence of an earthen water jar sit in silent communion with a rich, living tapestry of native botany. “Echoes of Chengal and Clay” reflects a timeless harmony; a space where architectural heritage is held gracefully in the lush, unyielding embrace of nature.

Meet The Artist

Syikin Aziz

A self-taught artist since 1999, a passion borne out of the pandemic. Instead of idlingly waiting out the quarantine period, she diligently learned to paint to pass the time. Noor Asyikin Abd Aziz fully transitioned herself to full-time art practice in 2024. Born & raised in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, she graduated with Diploma in Architecture from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai in 2012. Her works, primarily in acrylic and watercolor, explore still life, botanical subjects, landscapes, seascapes, semi-realism, and contemporary abstract.

Syikin has participated in several joint exhibitions since 2024. She was featured in Harian Metro (Women Metro, July 2024) in the article “Capai Impian Di Usia 40” and Expat Magazine (March 2026) in the article titled “Painting Malaysia’s Beauty”.

“I paint to capture the rhythm that surrounds us. It’s a quiet observation of scenes, spaces and things that hold stories, memories and nostalgia, often overlooked in our fast moving world. Through color, texture and light, I’m trying to reflect moments of stillness and exploring themes of calm, belonging and rustic charms of these spaces. Working primarily in warm but vibrant natural tones, I seek to evoke a sense of familiarity and peace. Each piece is an invitation to pause and take in the quiet spaces we often pass by”.
