About The Artwork

Set around 1975, the painting recalls a time when mothers visited local markets to buy simple groceries, with ikan temenung often being a staple. “Sa Kati Nam Kupang Lima Det” reflects the value of small coins in northern Malaysia, symbolising a modest life where every purchase mattered. The work captures memories of resilience, gratitude, love, and adapting to a new life through familiar food, daily routines, and local traditions.

Meet The Artist

Luq Zaidismail

My art is a personal journey rooted in identity, heritage and the everyday beauty of Malaysian life. I focus on capturing the richness of local culture through scenes of food, fruits, flowers and fauna. I believe art is a powerful tool for preserving memory and tradition. Teaching and mentoring, especially emerging and neurodivergent artists brings me deep fulfillment and I’m passionate about creating inclusive spaces where creativity can thrive. For me, art is both a reflection of who we are and a bridge that connects us across time, culture, and experience.
